Reception at Iquique Airport, and transfer to our lodging. Tonight we want to get a full night’s sleep: tomorrow the action starts!
We begin our day with a hearty breakfast and as soon as everyone is ready, we set off. Today we skip the usual morning flight at Alto Hospicio in favor of a site introduction and a bit of theory by part of our experienced guides and instructors. We drive to “Palo Buque” and show you our favourite spot in Chile! You can play here for hours until the sunset light bathes the landscape - either a relaxed time soaring above the massive dunes, or playing down on the ground and mastering your control over the canopy.
New day, new sights! We start early in the morning with full vigor for the day and take to the air just behind Iquique City - the name of the takeoff is “Alto Hospicio”. Enjoy a unique flight over the city, where before landing, you can soar in front of tall skyscrapers. Landing is directly on the beach at Cavancha, where you can take a dip in the cold waters of the Humboldt Current. In the afternoon, we head back to Palo Buque for more playtime on the dune.
Today is the big day for our XC fans! From Tocopilla to Iquique, more than 100k can be covered given good conditions. It’s all a combination of soaring and thermal flying, and should be possible with all types of XC gliders! After gathering our energies at breakfast time, we head down the Chilean coast and, using the thermals and ridge lift, we try to return to Iquique for an unforgettable day of flying.
Today we can choose to attempt an XC flight in the morning between Iquique and Palo Buque! The rest of the afternoon will be spent playing on the dune and perfecting our skills.
Free resting day! Today is a day to either rest and do some alternate activities, or keep enjoying the flying in Iquique/Palo Buque.
DAYS 7 - 11
These are completely flexible and dependent on the group’s choice and needs ! We can keep our usual routine of Alto Hospicio and Palo Buque, or attempt some longer XC flights in the area.
After our breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye! Transfer to the airport in order to connect to Santiago and your chosen flights back home.
